Paradise Pink on Leros
Tucked away on the picturesque island of Leros, my recent escape to Greece was utter perfection, and I'd like to thank this pink house. Interestingly, the property features Italian architecture on a Greek island due to the Italian occupation during WWII, with many remnants still standing. Walls adorned with centuries-old trinkets, letters, and photos transport you to a bygone era. In the evenings, we both sank into a well-worn chair with a glass of wine, and every night; I still couldn't help but marvel over the intertwined perfection of past and present that enveloped me. Nothing short of an ideal escape from what seemed like the world, surrounded by a delicate balance of nostalgic charm, natural beauty, and history. As the sun sets each night warmly upon the landscape, a breathtaking metamorphosis begins, as if, just for a little while, the house adopts a new identity – forged only by the hues.
The architecture of the home revealed to me a fascinating tale of cultural fusion that emerged during the island's turbulent past. Following the upheavals of World War II, Italian architects, with their artistic vision, played a crucial role in shaping the island's rebuilding phase.
