After stumbling upon photos of the lakefront cabin on Macias Island, I immediately booked it. The island's remote location made logistics a little more complicated, but I was willing to risk it all to go off-grid and escape reality. I coordinated all crossings via WhatsApp with the most chill boat captain ever. His skills managed to get us across during the worst and windiest time of day, at night. Sorry, Yonny. *Disclaimer, most people do not leave the island when staying.

Nights were peacefully quiet, with only the sound of waves lapping against the shore just outside. The sweeping mountain views surrounding the house were more breathtaking in person than any photo could ever capture. The cabin was cozy and rustic, with most of the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The best part was the deck that looked out over the lake. I could spend hours sitting out there, mesmerized by the ever-changing light bouncing off the mountains and water. During the day, we explored the island and its many hiking trails. The scenery was truly awe-inspiring, with towering cliffsides, crystal-clear beaches, and zero people. Anywhere. The island keeper took us out on his boat to fish and show us the most picturesque spots around the island that were only visible by boat. Truly an unforgettable experience and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a unique travel experience or stay.

Isla Macías, also known as Macías Island, is a small island part of the Juan Fernandez Archipelago. The island was named after Captain Juan Macías, who visited the island during a Spanish expedition in 1750. Despite its small size, the island plays a vital role in conserving the Juan Fernandez Archipelago. The island is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Juan Fernandez Islands" and a protected area network aiming to preserve Chile's natural resources and promote sustainable development.
